We all know we should be taking vitamins, but most of us don't...

In this culture of processed foods, epidemic levels of obesity, disease, and stress, vitamins are vital to staying healthy.

In the days of yore, we ate only fresh whole foods that were loaded with all the nutrients out bodies needed. Today, most of the foods we consume are highly processed, full of chemicals, and almost completely nutritionally deficient. Without vitamins, our bodies don’t have the fuel to function properly. As a result we experience fatigue, disease, obesity and a list of other problems that make our lives less than stellar.

The question we are asked most often is “Which are the most important vitamins to take?”

Vitamin D: Most of us are Vitamin D deficient. We’re especially lacking in the winter months when outdoor activities are thwarted by blankets of snow and below-zero temps. Vitamin D is essential for good health. Research has shown that we need the vitamin for protection against a number of serious diseases. In recent years, scientists have discovered that it may help to prevent several cancers, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, psoriasis, diabetes, psychosis, and respiratory infections including colds and flu. Like we said, D is essential.

Dosage: In the winter months 5000 IUs daily of Vitamin D from a whole-food source (the vitamin is made from actual food extracts, not synthesized). A great brand is “Garden of Life Raw D3”.

Omega 3 Fish Oil:  Most diseases are caused by silent inflammation in our bodies. Meaning, you don’t feel it until it is too late. Omega 3 fish oils quell silent inflammation in the body. As a culture we are 85% deficient in Omega 3s. Simply taking Omega 3s daily can stop and even reverse disease in its tracks.

Dosage: A healthy person who is free of disease should take 2500 mg daily with the largest meal of the day.

Vitamin B Complex: Feeling tired? Lacking the  get up and go? Having trouble dragging yourself to the gym? Most of us suffer from a lack of energy. Without Vitamin B Complex and the nutrients it delivers, our bodies can’t properly metabolize and use the food we put into it. (un)Naturally, we try to substitute that lack of energy with coffee and energy drinks that only further the problem by spiking our blood sugar and flooding our bodies with chemicals. Taking a daily whole-food based Vitamin B Complex will boost your energy levels and keep you flying high the entire day.

Dosage: One tablet taken at breakfast. A great brand of whole-food Vitamin B Complex is “Mega Food B Complex” made from 100% whole food extracts.
