Ever wonder how many calories are burned during a gym class?

Ever use the excuse that you “just did a strenuous spinning class, so of course that offsets the pint of ice cream” you’re about to eat? If you’re seriously trying to lose weight then counting calories in and out is a must.

In order to lose weight you must burn 3500 calories MORE than you took in that week. That’s a pretty big number, which is why it’s so important to know how much you’re burning at the gym.

THE NUMBERS

Here are the average calories burned per hour for a person of 150lbs. If you weigh less you’ll burn less, if you weigh more you’ll burn more.

Remember, the numbers vary depending on your intensity level. Less intensity – less calories burned:

Running—————–5.0mph—————-563 cal/hr

Elliptical—————–moderate————–563 cal/hr

Tai Chi———————————————281 cal/hr

Walking——————3.0 mph—————246 cal/hr

Boxing———————————————422 cal/hr

Hip Hop——————————————-435 cal/hr

Kickboxing—————————————-704 cal/hr

Spinning——————————————-625 cal/hr

Vinyasa Yoga————————————445 cal/hr

Bikram Yoga————————————-630 cal/hr

Zumba Class————————————525 cal/hr

If you really want to keep track of your progress, keep an exercise journal and keep track of how many calories you’re burning as compared to how many you’re taking in.
