Is your food giving you the blues?

We know that eating trans-fats can clog your arteries, but research has shown that eating foods containing trans-fats can lead to depression – and no, not just the guilt that washes over you after you’ve finished that entire bag of chips.

THE SAD TRUTH ABOUT TRANS-FATS…

These fats are strictly a science experiment. In other words, they do not occur in nature – they are created in a lab to mimic the consistency of actual fat. Margarine is a great example. Trans-fats block your cells’ ability to absorb fatty acids (very bad) and should be avoided at all costs.

In one study, researchers discovered that people who took in even small amounts of trans-fats, found mostly in processed and prepackaged foods, had up to a 48% greater chance of suffering from depression over a 6 year study period. At the same time, those who had a diet rich in good fats from avocados, olive oil, nuts and other sources of unsaturated fats were far less likely to feel gloomy.

Next time you’re reaching for that doughnut, grab a handful of walnuts instead. You’ll be doing your body and mind a great favor!
