They're popping up everywhere and in everything!

The question is: What do they do and why do you need them?

Probiotics are GOOD bacteria – yes, those exist and no, they’re not the kind you’ll pick up on the subway. Probiotics help the healthy balance of flora in our intestines and keep the BAD bacteria (the kind you WILL find on the subway) away.

PROBIOTICS – THE GOOD BACTERIA!

Probiotics are amazing little buggers that keep us healthy and help boost our immune system. Have you ever had a yeast infection, athlete’s foot, jock itch? Probiotics help control the bad yeasties that cause those conditions. Ever travel to a foreign country and picked up a case of Montezuma’s Revenge? Probiotics can help that too – and taking them during your trip probably could have prevented it in the first place. Scarfed down a suspect taco at the local food truck? Probiotics can help you get better faster and probably even keep you from hugging the bowl all night. Taking antibiotics? As the antibiotics kill the bad bacteria that made you sick, they also kill the good bacteria and taking probiotics can restore the balance, preventing diarrhea and those torturous yeast infections. Constipated? Jamie Lee Curtis is correct! Probiotics can help keep you “moving.”

There are many different types and combinations of probiotics to aid everything from digestion to specific immune disorders. The uses seem endless!

The best probiotics are found in the refrigerated section of your health food store. Keep them refrigerated so they live longer! Yogurt and kefir are also chock full of probiotics and a super delicious way to keep the bad guys out.
