Is “Run only when chased!” your motto?

Do you scowl at those arrogant runners as you walk past them at the gym?

For some of us, the thought of running  is so abhorrent that we actually avoid the treadmill area entirely at the gym.

Runners are annoying. They effortlessly run for hours, smiling and reinforcing their physical superiority. Seriously – what is there to smile about, psycho runner? Walking on the treadmill can be just as irritating. Every second feels like an eternity as you watch the calorie counter barely budge. After an hour you’ve barely burned enough calories to justify the cookie you had with lunch. Too bad you had three…

Well, we have a solution…..and it kicks running’s butt! Incline Training!

Incline training is walking on the treadmill at an 8+ incline. It simulates walking uphill and it burns 30% more calories than RUNNING for the same amount of time! YAY!! Take THAT runners!

Adding an incline increases the amount of calories you burn in your treadmill workout. A 150 lb person can burn 600 calories in an hour walking at a speed of 3.5 on an incline of 8, as opposed to 420 calories in an hour running at a speed of 6 on a flat treadmill. Incline training also improves leg strength, efficiency of movement, form and aerobic conditioning. You’ll work your legs, butt, abs and even your lower back. You’ll burn more fat, and using those muscles will keep your fat burning oven going all day.

Next time you go to the gym, head directly to the treadmills and go for some Incline Training! Don’t forget the smug look as you pass those smiling runners – you’ll be burning more calories than they will!
