Q: "What can I do about a horrible Summer Cold?"

Ahhh-choo!! Uh-oh….something is amiss – insert panic here!

That first sneeze, the first ache, the “gee, is it cold in here?” when it’s 85 degrees out . That feeling that let’s you know some horrible bug has infiltrated your system and you’re headed straight into the dreaded cold and flu zone. Rather than feeling sorry for yourself, why not nip it in the bud and be back on your feet in no time flat?

Onions and garlic come from the same family of plants called Allium. They are both chock-full of anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-viral properties thereby putting them at the top of the superfoods list – seriously, they should have a cape! Or at least their own comic book series (do send entries). This recipe for a kick ass cold buster was given to me by a physician friend of mine, and it has never failed to ZAP those awful cooties before they rendered me completely useless.

COLD and FLU BUSTER

Onion and Garlic Soup

1 Large yellow onion, peeled

2 – 4 Heads of garlic, peeled

4 Cups of water or organic chicken stock

* Sea Salt to taste

Put all the contents into a pot over high heat. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes. Transfer the contents into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.

Drink at least a large mug full every few hours and cooties be damned! If you want to give your immune system an extra power punch, use the soup to wash down 1,000 mg of Ester-C (a non-acidic version of vitamin C), three times a day.
